 Kitchen Colours

When Choosing your Kitchen one of the most important decisions is the colour. Here are 2 recent customer kitchens - both on Trend and totally different.

Neutral Tones: Neutral colours like white, beige, and gray have been popular in kitchens for their timeless and versatile appeal. These shades create a clean and minimalist look, allowing other elements in the kitchen to stand out.

Bold Accents: Adding pops of bold colours has been a trend to create focal points in the kitchen. This can be achieved through colourful backsplashes, vibrant cabinetry, or statement appliances. Colours like navy blue, emerald green, or deep red can add depth and personality to the space.

Earthy Tones: Warm and earthy colours have gained popularity, bringing a sense of coziness and comfort to the kitchen. Shades like terracotta, warm browns, olive green, or mustard yellow can create a welcoming and rustic atmosphere.

Monochromatic Schemes: Using different shades of a single colour is a trendy way to add depth and interest to a kitchen. For example, a mix of light and dark shades of blue or gray can create a sophisticated and cohesive look.

Two-Tone Kitchens: Incorporating two different colours in the kitchen design has been a popular trend. For instance, upper cabinets in one colour and lower cabinets in another, or contrasting an island with the rest of the cabinetry. This creates visual interest and can help define different areas in the kitchen.

Remember that colour trends can vary over time, and personal preferences play a significant role in choosing the colour scheme for your kitchen. It's always a good idea to explore various sources like interior design magazines, websites, or consult with our professional designer to get the latest insights and ideas for kitchen colour trends in 2023.

Kitchen design refers to the process of planning and creating the layout, style, and functionality of a kitchen space. It involves considering various elements, such as the available space, desired features, workflow, storage options, and aesthetic preferences, to create a well-designed and efficient kitchen.
Here are some key aspects to consider when designing a kitchen:

1.    Layout: The kitchen layout determines the overall arrangement of key components, including the countertop, sink, appliances, and storage areas. Common kitchen layouts include the L-shaped, U-shaped, galley, and island designs. The layout should optimise the workflow and create a functional space where activities like cooking, cleaning, and food preparation can be performed efficiently.

2.    Work Triangle: The work triangle concept is a fundamental principle in kitchen design. It involves creating an efficient flow between the three primary work areas: the sink, refrigerator, and cooking area. The distance between these areas should be convenient, minimising unnecessary steps and ensuring smooth movement within the kitchen.

3.    Cabinetry and Storage: Adequate storage is crucial in a kitchen. Cabinetry plays a significant role in organizing and storing kitchen items. Consider the type of cabinets, their placement, and the inclusion of features like pull-out shelves, drawer dividers, and pantry systems to maximize storage capacity and ease of access.

4.    Appliances: Choose appliances that suit your cooking habits and lifestyle. Consider factors such as size, energy efficiency, functionality, and integration with the overall kitchen design. Appliances typically include a fridge/freezer, oven & Hob, microwave, dishwasher, extractor, and possibly additional features like a microwave or wine cooler.

5.    Worktops: Select durable and functional worktop materials that are best resistant to heat, stains, and scratches. Popular choices include granite, quartz, marble, or laminate. Also, consider the upstands, splashback, flooring, and other surface materials that complement the overall design while being practical and easy to maintain.

6.    Lighting: Adequate lighting is crucial in a kitchen for both functionality and ambiance. Incorporate a combination of task lighting, such as under-cabinet lights and pendant lights over the work areas, as well as ambient and accent lighting to create a visually appealing and well-lit space.

7.    Colours and Finishes: Choose a colour scheme and finishes that align with your personal style and create a harmonious look. Consider factors like the size of the kitchen, natural light, and the desired atmosphere. Lighter colours can make a small kitchen feel more spacious, while darker shades add depth and sophistication.

8.    Ergonomics: Pay attention to ergonomics by ensuring that the kitchen design is comfortable and easy to use. Consider the height and placement of worktops, the positioning of appliances, and the accessibility of storage areas to minimise strain and facilitate effortless movement.

9.    Ventilation: Proper ventilation is essential to remove cooking odours, smoke, and excess moisture. Install an extractor to help maintain a fresh and clean kitchen environment.

10. Personalisation: Customise your kitchen design to suit your specific needs and preferences. Incorporate elements that reflect your style, such as decorative accents, open shelves for display, or a designated area for a breakfast nook or seating.

Kitchen design is a creative and multidimensional process that combines functionality, aesthetics, and individual preferences. Considering these factors and working with one of our professional designers can help you create a kitchen that is visually appealing, efficient, and tailored to your needs.
